Civil & Commercial Mediation

How can mediation help me?

There are broadly two types of mediation, family mediation which takes place over multiple days with parties together and civil mediation which takes place in a single day. As a simple division family mediation handles cases that would proceed through the family courts and civil mediation that which would go through the other courts.

The aim of civil mediation is to reach an agreement on the day of the session, this agreement may or may not be binding on the parties.

The Ministry of Justice and the Courts have implemented changes in policy to encourage the uptake of mediation, recognising the benefits and high settlement rate (88%). Indeed there can be harsh cost penalties where parties do not uptake an offer to mediate.

Indeed there are many reasons why mediation is encouraged, these include the high success rate, massively reduced costs to parties, faster resolution, and high rates of party satisfaction (over 97%)

The case was with our solicitors for 4 years and wasn't really goign anywhere. I'm still in shock it settled by 4pm, I though our solicitor was mad when he suggested mediation.
